Where to eat the best brunches in Dublin South, Ireland?

3fe – Grand Canal Street

With multiple locations across Dublin, 3fe is renowned for its excellent coffee. At the Grand Canal Dock spot, brunch is no exception. The simple yet stylish interior, adorned with their signature red and white colours, showcases ceramics and promotes local artists.

Lucky for us, we snagged a table without a reservation, but you can also book in advance.

The coffee, of course, didn’t let us down. 3fe is one of the best specialty coffee shops in Dublin.

Pro Tip: Their coffee beans are also available for takeaway.

The brunch menu has various tempting options, all featuring quality ingredients. My favs are the avocado toast (of course…) and the eggs on toast. The avo toast is served with hummus, poached eggs, greens and onions. The eggs on toast are scrambled eggs on toast (what a surprise…) and greens and granola pieces. Both taste amazing 😛

Prices:

  • Avocado toast – 13,00 EUR
  • Eggs on toast – 8,00 EUR (+ extra avocado – 3,00 EUR)
  • Flat white – 3,65 EUR
  • Cappuccino – 3,80 EUR

As One

As an architect, As One’s interior captivated me with its thoughtful design. The bright interior adorned with paintings, books, plants and comfy seats made us feel at home. The super kind waiters also helped with the atmosphere.

The Saturday menu offers an “All in” option, consisting of a brunch dish, small plate, dessert, and cocktail. We went “all in”.

The Irish mushroom muffin was super delicious. The different mushroom flavours matched the veggies, pickles and poached egg. My small plate choice was the Blueberry & feta toast. It was flavourful, the blueberry really matched the feta and basil. The Eton Mess glass dessert was good but not extraordinary, the blueberry cake was tastier.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available, but the recurring presence of potatoes with almost every dish felt a bit odd to me. Yeah, I know, we are in Ireland… 😉

Price:

  • Irish mushroom muffin – 15,50 EUR
  • Hash Up – 14,00 EUR
  • Blueberry & feta toast – 6,00 EUR
  • Eton mess – 6,00 EUR
  • Espresso Martini – 11,00 EUR
  • “All in” brunch – 32,00 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,60 EUR

Bread 41 (and the Eatery)

Located near Pearse Station, Bread 41 is a haven for pastry enthusiasts. And there are many of them queuing in front of the store. Though there’s always a good reason for the queue 😉

The mouthwatering display of savoury and sweet pastries includes cruffins, croissants, fruity pastries, pastel de nata and cakes.

While you can enjoy your pastry and specialty coffee on the ground floor, booking a table on the 1st floor “Eatery” is an option for a more substantial breakfast. Reservation in advance is a must!

The short but impressive brunch menu tore me between the Croissant Benedict and Eggs & bread, so we shared both. (And I might return for the Kimchi Pancakes.) The tastes of Croissant Benedict were combined so well. At the Eggs & bread, the poached eggs were accompanied by spiced yoghurt, harissa butter, pickles and herbs, which matched wonderfully. The toasted sourdough bread slices were a bit too thick but also tasty.

For dessert, we’ve tested a cruffin. It was beautiful and full of cream inside.

Quick service, friendly staff and delicious food make this a must-visit spot.

Price:

  • Eggs & bread – 15,50 EUR
  • Croissant Benedict – 16,50 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,90 EUR
  • Cappuccino – 3,90 EUR

The Pepper Pot Cafe

Located in the city centre, on the historical Powerscourt House’s balcony level. It might be hidden from the street, but definitely not hidden from people. Just follow the signs to the breakfast and brunch paradise, and you might find yourself in a queue… We sure did when we visited on a bustling Saturday afternoon around 1 pm. After a 15-minute wait, we got a table in the corridor, missing out on the panoramic view of the historic interior. It wasn’t the most ideal spot for eating because shoppers were passing by.

The menu is short and has mainly sandwich and bagel combinations, all crafted from the bread, bagels, and cakes made in their in-house bakery.

We opted for the scrambled egg on toast with an extra serving of salad and salmon, a flavorful and generously portioned brunch. Our second choice, the “famous” pear and bacon sambo, lived up to its reputation with a fantastic interplay of flavours from the pear, bacon, greens, and sauce, although the white bread was on the thicker side.

All the cakes and sweets looked nice, so we indulged in an orange cake with pistachio. Delicious and soft treat that perfectly capped off our brunch experience.

Price:

  • Our “Famous” Pear & Bacon Sambo – 11,00 EUR
  • Soft Scrambled Eggs on toast – 9,50 EUR
  • Extra side salad & pickles – 3,00 EUR
  • Extra Irish smoked salmon – 4,00 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,90 EUR
  • Cappuccino – 3,90 EUR
  • Moroccan orange cake – 4,75 EUR

The Cake Cafe

The Cake Cafe is a little coffee shop and brunch place tucked away in a small courtyard. You can approach it from The Last Bookstore and a little bamboo forest (or the next street). It offers a charming setting with colourful decor. They have many tables outside in the cute yard and also a few inside. The service may be a bit slow, but the wait is worthwhile.

My mixed nut rayu and pea guacamole on toast was a flavour explosion. The pea guacamole matched the homemade nut rayu, eggs, dukkah, onion and goat cheese. And it was presented beautifully on the vintage plate. My boyfriend’s brunch was also super tasty. The toast was also served with pea guacamole, moreover goat cheese, homemade green dressing and poached eggs. And the extra bacon was giant.

With its cute ambiance and delicious offerings, it has rightfully earned its place as one of Dublin’s best brunch spots.

And if a place is called Cake Café, you have to sample some cakes 😀 The brownie was over, so we went for the chocolate cake. The huge slice was soft and delicious. Highly recommend it.

You can also buy their cake recipe book, which I bought around 5 years ago when I visited this cuteness for the first time. I baked a few cakes from it, and they were all delicious.

Price:

  • Green Goddess – 14,75 EUR
  • Extra bacon – 3,00 EUR
  • Mixed Nut Rayu – 14,75 EUR
  • Extra goat cheese – 3,00 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,50 EUR
  • Cappuccino – 3,60 EUR
  • Chocolate cake – 3,50 EUR

ALMA

ALMA is a small family-owned coffee shop in Portobello, mixing Argentinian flavours into Irish produce. The intimate interior looks gorgeous with its minimal design. There are only a few tables inside and a few more outside. They have umbrellas, so it’s also protected during rain.

You already know, if there’s an avo toast on the menu, I’ll go for that, though everything on the menu looked so good, we had to try more things, so I “sacrificed” myself and let my boyfriend start with the avo toast and I ordered the salty pancake combo. Both dishes were visually stunning and bursting with flavour.

My Smokey West Corkey Pancakes looked like a colourful vegetable installation. Goat cheese cream was spread between the pancakes and topped with salmon, fennel, radish and pickled beets. My taste buds didn’t know what was happening, the flavours were amazing. One of the best and prettiest brunches I had in Dublin (and my life).

Alma’s Poached Eggs was also beautiful and tasty. The sourdough bread almost disappeared under the avocado cream and veggies. And that avo topping was super creamy and tasty. The feta cheese and poached eggs enhanced its flavour even more.

You can book a table via their website. You will have the table for 1 hour on weekends and for 50 minutes on weekdays from the time booked.

Price:

  • Alma’s Poached Eggs – 14,00 EUR
  • Smokey West Corkey Pancakes – 16,50 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,60 EUR
  • Cappuccino (large) – 3,80 EUR

The Fumbally

Nestled near St. Patrick’s Cathedral, The Fumbally has a super cool vibe with lights, plants and vintage decor. The spacious room, adorned with large windows, can get busy, but the friendly waiters ensure a cosy experience. It has many tables inside and a few outside.

Our flat whites were also tasty, which isn’t surprising when the coffee beans are by Coffee Collective and Farmhand Coffe Roasters.

Offering a concise yet thoughtful menu made from local, chemical-free ingredients. They even have a small garden and a fermentation shed.

The Fumbally Eggs are a must-try. The fluffy scrambled eggs were served on soft fluffy sourdough brioche and topped with fluffy kale, sunflower seeds and hot sauce (wasn’t that spicy). The flavours were matching perfectly.

You can also try pastries like almond croissants, pastel de nata and many focaccias. Or the freshly baked sweets displayed at the cashier.

A shop is also part of the space. You can purchase unique and healthy products, including locally produced items. I bought seaweed flakes from the Arán islands and dark chocolate. The seasonal veggies and fruits by local farmers looked gorgeous. You can choose from cleaning products, books, seeds, nut butters, cheeses and other diaries and many fermented food options prepared by them. Their wide selection of wine is also worth mentioning 😛

Price:

  • Fumbally Eggs – 10,50 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,70 EUR

Bibi’s Café Portobello

Looking for a cosy spot where the tables might be close, but the vibes are friendly? Bibi’s Café in Portobello has you covered. You can book a table online, whether you fancy an indoor or outdoor brunch experience. The place is small, but that only adds to its charm – cute, homey, and adorned with plants. The staff is also super friendly.

The coffee, brewed with Cloudpicker beans, is the real deal. Delicious and served in cute mugs.

Now, about the menu – it’s not too long, but each dish is special. My boyfriend went for the mushroom toast with a pesto base on sourdough. Amazing flavours. I opted for the chorizo & potato hash, a bit heavier but utterly delicious.

And because no brunch is complete without a sweet ending, we treated ourselves with a creamy and delicious peanut butter brownie. They also had salted caramel and double chocolate brownies, plus a tempting array of croissants and pastries. Delish!

Price:

  • Mushroom on toast – 13,00 EUR
  • Extra poached egg – 2,00 EUR
  • Chorizo & potato hash – 16,00 EUR

Two pups

Venturing out around 1 pm on a lazy Sunday “morning”, we found Two Pups buzzing with a queue… Only walk-ins, but the minimal design, friendly staff, and delicious brunches made the wait worthwhile.

While waiting you can check out their selection of Farmhand coffee beans and coffee accessories.

The Avo toast and Beetroot Turkish Eggs were outstanding. The presentation was simple, but the tastes were exploding. Maybe because of the locally sourced fresh ingredients or maybe because of the exciting combinations.

There were also delicious-looking sweets at the cashier. The brownie was staring at my boyfriend, so he had to order one. It was so creamy, soft and delicious, one of the best in Dublin.

Two pups has another location with a different menu close to Fairview Park.

Price:

  • Eggs n Avo toast – 13,50 EUR
  • Beetroot Turkish Eggs – 14,99 EUR

Groundstate Coffee

Picture this: a bright interior adorned with plants, a cool vibe, and tables both inside and outside. That’s Groundstate Coffee, located in The Liberties. We went there on a bank holiday around noon, and guess what? Snagged a table easily. Even if you miss out on an actual table, the bar around the shop window might be your next favourite spot.

The menu is short but packed with various flavours. Veggie, vegan, meat toasties, granola, egg dishes, and tofu scramble – they’ve got you covered.

My scrambled eggs with kale and Asian sauce were very tasty. The flavours really matched, and with the extra bacon, it was even better. My boyfriend’s brekkie bun was also super, though it was served with too many potatoes. Many foods have the spicy sign, just ask for the spicy sauce on the side.

We’re all about balance, so we tested their gooey and tasty brownie, even though we weren’t starving.

And now about the coffee. Delicious! They roast their beans in-house, and the packaging is so cool that I couldn’t resist grabbing one to test at home. Plus, major points for being eco-friendly, all their packaging is compostable.

Price:

  • Brioche brekkie bun – 14,20 EUR
  • Saucy scrambled eggs – 11,50 EUR
  • Extra bacon – 3,60 EUR
  • Flat white – 3,70 EUR
  • Cappuccino – 3,70 EUR
