After visiting Uyuni, La Paz and Copacabana, Santa Cruz de la Sierra was a totally different world. First of all, it’s located in tropical East Bolivia, only 400 m above sea level. The mountain scenery and high altitude changed to humid weather, modern vibes and less poverty. I’d say not authentic Bolivia. However, we liked this other type of Bolivia with its exceptional flora and fauna. La Paz is the highest located capital in South America and it has a unique location between the mountains of Andes. This particular area was a totally new world for me. I really enjoyed the diversity in architecture as well as in people’s behaviour and look. Though I have to admit, on our first day I wasn’t so impressed with the centre of La Paz. However, its variety mesmerized me by colourful historical buildings, raw brick facades without any plaster, modern buildings with glass facades and the innovative cable car network. In this blog post, I’ll tell you how to get there, where to stay and 6 things you cannot miss in Copacabana, Bolivia. How to get to Copacabana and Lake Titicaca? Copacabana is situated at Lake Titicaca, close to the Peru-Bolivia border and you can approach it by taxi, rented car or as part of a tour. We chose the EASIEST AND CHEAPEST WAY and travelled there by bus from La Paz, which took 4 hours for us. The peninsula of Copacabana is reachable on more routes, depending on your chosen bus company. A few buses go through Peru, so this way the bus goes on land all the way. The other option is to stay in Bolivia, enjoy the scenic drive on the lakeshore and cross the narrowest part of Lake Titicaca by boat at Tiquina. Visiting Uyuni Salt Flats was the highlight of our Bolivian and Chilean trip. Although we spent only a day at the salt flats, our 3 days tour provided many experiences and unbelievable scenery with lagoons, geysers, unique rock formations, mountains and volcanoes on Bolivia’s Altiplano.
