Ready to discover a different side of Brazil? Brazil is more than beaches. I wouldn’t imagine the Brazilian mountains would remind me of the Austrian Alps, and I’d watch them from a hot tub drinking sparkling wine at 10 am. Usually, I’d like to save money on accommodation, though when I found out about this charming chalet, Pousada Colina do Sol, I had to book it for our weekend getaway to Urubici. So for us, Colina do Sol was the best chalet to stay in Urubici.
Urubici is located in the Santa Catarina mountain range (Serra Catarinense), 170 km from Florianópolis. Its area is famous for waterfalls, viewpoints, natural sights and adventurous activities. It’s a popular tourist destination in every season, especially during winter. Due to its altitude of almost 1000 m, the weather can be snowy, and that’s a rare thing in Brazil.

Where is Pousada Colina do Sol located in Urubici?
The territory is less than 10 km from the centre of Urubici and 20 km from the famous viewpoint, Morro da Igreja. It’s located on the main road (SC-370) between Urubici and Serra do Corvo Branco.
Before our arrival, the owner sent us the details on WhatsApp. It was Portuguese, but my boyfriend helped me with the translation. It included the location, check-in and check-out times, a hint about our gift in the fridge, wifi and door codes. The check-in was more flexible thanks to the electronic lock with the password, and we didn’t need to carry a key.
Don’t search for “Pousada Colina do Sol” signs on the road. Only the sent location and photo helped us to find the gate, and from there, we drove higher and higher to our chalet on the narrow road, which wasn’t in good condition.
First, you won’t see any houses. After a few minutes of drive, the chalets revealed themselves between the gorgeous Paraná pines. There were 3 chalets on the plot, though another 2 were under construction.
The houses are located further away from each other so you can have your privacy and view. Parking is possible next to every chalet.
On the vast land, you’ll also find a picnic area and a swing overlooking the valley. One night going to Urubici from Altos Corvo Branco, we noticed the illuminated swing on the mountainside and realised that the chalets have an outstanding position.

Colina do Sol – Chalet 1 & 2, the best chalet to stay in Urubici
We got Colina nr. 2, the 2nd in the row (obviously…). The chalet‘s area was around 25 sqm, including a balcony overlooking the mountains with the green valley. Horses were eating grass near our house, making the panorama dreamier. The interior was cosy, thanks to the bright wooden surfaces and the romantic details.
The reason we chose this accommodation was the hot tub. Yes! There was a beautiful jacuzzi in the corner of the chalet with windows on 2 sides. We conquered our desire to jump straight into it and headed to discover some viewpoints.
The other central part of the room was the double bed facing the balcony with the mountains in the background. The bed was comfy but could have been just a bit wider. Unfortunately, there weren’t any cabinets to store our clothes, so we left our luggage on the floor.
The kitchen corner near the bed was equipped with glasses, kitchenware, kettle and microwave oven.
The chalet also provided air-conditioning. We travelled to Urubici during winter, so we were happier with the thick blanket and the fireplace. It was easy to make fire thanks to the provided tools, and the chalet quickly became warmer after returning from the viewpoints and dinner. We also tested the bathtub and opened our presents in the fridge. A bottle of sparkling wine and 1-litre water were waiting for us there.
We enjoyed the jacuzzi, so we started our next 2 days in the hot tub 🙂 The morning was even better with sunshine and the panorama. It was magical to soak in the bathtub while enjoying our wine (and getting tipsy at 10 am).
A tiny bathroom also belonged to the chalet. It was just a toilet and a shower, plus extra towels.

Colina do Sol 3
The interior of chalets 1 and 2 are similar. They are located lower on the mountain than Colina do Sol 3. That’s the biggest, and it’s also equipped with a dining table and kitchen area. It also looks a bit different outside, you can check videos about the interior in their Instagram highlights.

Where to eat around Colina do Sol and Urubici?
Breakfast (and other dishes) wasn’t provided at the accommodation. We brought some ingredients and prepared our breakfast in the small kitchen corner, though for coffee, we drove to Urubici. The served coffee wasn’t tasty, not in Guardião do Avencal Bar Café, neither in Império Café e Bistrô.
For lunch, we always grabbed some bites nearby the tourist attractions.
For dinner, we found the best places to eat…
Best restaurants in Urubici
Many places open only for dinner time, so make sure to check out their opening time! Both of the following restaurants opened after 6:30 pm.
Lá Morena – Carnes Nobres
Lá Morena – Carnes Nobres is located on the main street of Urubici. They specialised in steaks. And even have their signature dish, wagyu, from their raised cows. Unfortunately, it wasn’t available during our visit. Though the steaks with homemade cheese sauce totally amazed us.
Château du Valle Restaurante
Château du Valle Restaurante is nearby Cachoeira do Avencal. So it’s not the closest restaurant to Colina do Sol, though it’s worth driving a bit more to try out their wide selections of fondue and pasta.
