Urban Sidewalker Design Shop

The story of Urban Sidewalker began in 2014 with Balázs, the artist and his friend, Máté. Balázs draws freehand and uses digital techniques only for colouring. They started with maps capturing Budapest, its significant buildings and the Danube. If you are looking closely, you can discover the amazing details including tiny people on the streets of Budapest 🙂

Urban Sidewalker used to have a small hidden store on Károly street, fortunately, they moved to a bigger one on Akácfa street, where posters, design maps and postcards are available in many colour combination. You can also find concrete jewellery and clock.

They also attend on design fairs, Christmas markets and you can see their amazing Budapest inspired products in every other design shop in this blog post 🙂

Köszi

Köszi means Thanks in English (if you didn’t know…) and you should say thanks because in Köszi you will find “Everything you didn’t know you needed”. The walls of the small and cute souvenir shop are covered with an amazing red&white wallpaper by redheads. Their other creations are displayed on the shelves.

Köszi sells products mainly by Hungarian designers and also have a nice selection of Budapest inspired products like mugs, notebooks, tote bags, maps, Hungarian cookbooks and postcards of Zsolt Vidák, Barbsiegraphy and the previously mentioned Urban Sidewalker.

I’m not joking, here you can find what you need: bags, jewellery and other accessories by spark.le.monde, Smörgås Clothes and nandi clothing, beauty products like soaps by Zador, beard caring products by Szakállasember.

And I mentioned only a few 😉

Printa Design Shop

Printa is one of the first environmentally conscious brands in Hungary. They produce silkscreen-printed clothing, tote bags, toys for kids (and for you…), home decor products like pillowcase, pen holder, notebook and different kinds of souvenirs as well. The graphics are inspired by the city’s architecture, street art, daily life and combined with typography.

A Zero Waste Showroom is also part of the shop, where you can buy grocery shopping bags, produce bags, household products, kitchenware and many other products made of natural materials.

Enjoy their tasty coffee too, surrounded by industrial design, natural materials and impressive creations.

Libabőr gift shop

At first sight, you might not even notice this small design store next to Váci street, though don’t miss it, if you’re a fan of chic, funny and unique souvenirs. With its stylish monochrome interior and minimal products, it’s much better than the “normal” souvenir stores.

The friendly owner will help you to choose artistic postcards, prints and notebooks. If you’re into a more functional gift, pick a piece of jewellery, cute coffee thermos, phone case, tote bag or backpack.

Rododendron Art & Design Shop

Approach the design shop from Semmelweis street or from Röser courtyard, where Kontakt (one of my favourite coffee shops) and Szimply (one of my favourite breakfast spots) are located.

The walls and the ceiling are decorated with cute drawings, and you’ll find many Hungarian design products like prints, pieces of handcrafted jewellery and other accessories, ceramics, stationery and toys.

One room is reserved only for Budapest prints and postcards by the best local artists like Urban Sidewalker, Zsolt Vidák, Barbsiegraphy, László Nagy and Richárd Sejben (a few of my favourite Hungarian artists).

PALOMA

Paloma is an eclectic courtyard with design shops on the ground and 1st floor. The house was built in 1894 and was destined to serve as a townhouse. In the 1990s, it functioned as a mall called Paloma Shopping Center, but its fame didn’t last long. In 2014, a group of young artists renovated the courtyard and established a new cultural project.

Now PALOMA is home of showrooms, ateliers and design stores, where you can meet the local artists. Clothes, accessories, bags, jewellery, ceramic studios are waiting for you to discover them in the courtyard.

Csendes Concept Store

The concept store is part of the Csendes family and it’s located between Csendes Társ and Csendes. The bright interior has a unique look and cosy atmosphere thanks to its urban jungle feeling with the plants.

The emphasis is on the gorgeous ceramics and art prints, furthermore, postcards, posters, concrete jewellery are also part of the collection.

At the Hungarian food section (which used to be Csendes Csemege), you’ll find marmalade, syrup, honey, tea, yoghurt, cheese and more made by local farmers.

wonderLAB

WonderLAB is for fashion lovers because you won’t find any stationery and home decor product here. However, the selection of stylish clothes, shoes, bags, backpacks and jewellery by Hungarian designers is one of the bests. Every piece has good quality, so the prices are also higher, but you won’t find these clothes and accessories on every 3rd person.

Shop some…

I mentioned only my favourites, browse on the Instagram of @wonderlab and discover the other designers.

See you in the LAB 😉

Stilshop – Bálna Budapest

The design shop is located inside the Bálna cultural centre and it’s also accessible from Hygge coffee shop. Before or after some shopping, you can try their tasty specialty coffee.

The store is small, however, it has many many Hungarian designer goods. One shelf is for the Budapest inspired postcards by Anita Nemes, Urban Sidewalker, another shelf for photos by Tamás Andok, the next shelf is for illustrated eco-design notebooks by notess, greeting cards and notebooks by DOT for you. And there are even more shelves… More postcards, notebooks by nuuna, Malinovka, redheads, Barbsiegraphy… Ceramics by kezemura, SUSU keramika, MASTRO… Silkscreen-printed pillowcases by Evuska, lamps by LUJA, soaps and bath salts by Zador and …

I could write a lot more products and designers, but don’t want to make you bored, just visit the store and find your favourites 🙂

Ludwig Museum Shop

At the entrance area of Ludwig Museum and the Palace of Art you will see a small museum shop mainly selling books, but I’m not talking about that one. On the 1st floor of the museum, another shop can be found, just enter the exhibition area and explore this colourful corner of the contemporary museum. No ticket is needed for visiting the shop.

You can find their own publication about the collections, art magazines and many other books about design, art, architecture, Budapest and the world. Moreover, the shop features artistic postcards, notebooks by Malinovka and Blacklist Design, pens, pencil cases, bags, wallets and colourful Nebouxii socks.
