Is your accommodation in the centre around Deák Ferenc square or Astoria and are you looking for breakfast or brunch places around there? First of all, starting your day with a great breakfast or brunch is necessary because your body needs the energy to discover Budapest. So if you are in the centre, in the neighbourhood of Deák Ferenc square and Astoria, you won’t stay hungry, this area offers a lot of options, so you won’t stay hungry 😉 And I’ll tell you where to have breakfast & brunch in the city centre of Budapest.
Be aware, this central area is one of the busiest, so these cool breakfast and brunch places can be busy especially on weekends. You have sooooo many alternatives, so let me help you find your favourite.
The address, prices and opening times are also included in the post, but it can change anytime, especially the opening time, so check it on their sites to not miss your dreamy breakfast.
Edison&Jupiter | Specialty café and Gastrolab
Edison&Jupiter coffee shop is located in the heart of Budapest, close to Deák Ferenc and Vörösmarty square. The whole place is a gem with so so so many beautiful details and surfaces. The colours and the bar’s surface resemble Jupiter. My fav parts were the lamps, especially the golden chips-shaped lamp covers. The elevated floor has a different, more intimate design with greenery, books and terrazzo tables. Don’t miss the restroom, it’s just as stylish as the coffee shop.
The owner, Nóri and the super friendly baristas care about every detail. The drinks and food are also masterpieces. Everything is served beautifully in gorgeous ceramics, prepared especially for Edison&Jupiter.
The coffee is made from own roasted coffee beans. Super tasty! Make sure to try out at least one of the desserts and cakes. First, I’ve tried their signature brioche bun pudding with homemade vanilla custard. It totally blew my mind and taste buds. Next time I went for a chestnut chocolate cake, which was also delicious.
They also have a brunch menu, specialising in brioche buns. The buns are rethought with toppings and fillings and are served beautifully, of course. I went for the Brioche bun with artisan ham, cheese, fried egg and salad. It was delicious, and I could feel the quality flavours. The portions weren’t so significant, but we didn’t stay hungry after it.
You can choose sweet and savoury dishes as well. The menu also contains pancakes and many cocktails. Local artisanal products like pálinka, chocolate, jams and syrups can also be bought in the shop.
Prices:
- Brioche bun with artisan ham or salami, cheese and a fried egg for those in favor of classics – 2900 HUF
- Brioche bun pudding, a heavenly Hungarian dessert + homemade vanilla custard – 1590 + 590 HUF
- Yes to a Mimosa – 1690 HUF
- Flat white – 1190 HUF

Á la Maison Grand
Á la Maison Grand is a bright impressive place, dressed in a minimal style with a hint of art deco. This fancy breakfast & brunch location has every type of breakfast on the menu, I mean EVERY KIND OF BREAKFAST! Different types of Eggs Benedict, avocado toasts, international breakfast plates, egg variations, sandwiches, waffles, pancakes, smoothie bowls and other healthy variations.
On my first visit, my avocado addiction won, so I tried their avocado toast with greens and poached egg. It looked gorgeous and its taste was also satisfying, but a bit more of avocado cream would make it even better. Maybe I’m too critical, but I’m just looking for the best avo toast 😉
On my second visit, I went for a special kind of Eggs Benedict called Bacon Benedict with Avocado Hollandaise #omnomnom 😛 Super tasty and beautiful!
However, their coffee isn’t the best one, don’t be disappointed, you can have great specialty coffee around this area, just walk a bit to Kontakt coffee or My Little Melbourne or read my specialty coffee guide to Budapest and discover more 😉
Prices:
- Avocado stuffed sandwich – 2320 HUF
- Bacon Benedict with Avocado Hollandaise – 3490 HUF
- Tropical berry smoothie – 2090 HUF
- Flat white – 1350 HUF

Fruccola (CLOSED)
Fruccola is a healthy choice. Its big bright friendly interior reflects their ”fresh food” philosophy with herbs on the wall, wooden surfaces and colourful signs. Fruccola at Kristóf square has outdoor tables as well (Fruccola has other two locations: one in Arany János street and the other in MOM Park in Buda). Order at the bar, take your card and the friendly staff will bring your chosen dish.
Breakfast is available till 11 am on weekdays and all day long on weekends. Pick a healthy freshly pressed juice (the strawberry + orange + apple juice was amazing) with an omelette, vegan cooked breakfast, sandwiches, pastry, waffle or pancake and finish with a tapioca pudding or fruit salad.
I had on an omelette with spinach and goat cheese. The fluffy omelette was super tasty with the creamy goat cheese. My friends were also satisfied with their brunch 😛

Cserpes Tejivó (Cserpes Milk Bar)
Cserpes Tejivó also has many locations in Budapest with different “milky” designs. This one is decorated with milk neon signs, fluffy puffs, marble tables and owns a cute gallery, where more tables are available.
This stylish milk bar offers more than milk 😉 You can drink milkshakes, lemonade, and other milky drinks and eat fresh pastries, sandwiches with creams, big portions of salads, hot sandwiches, fruity and natural yoghurts, chocolate and other sweets. My favourite combination is a scone with cheese and fruity yoghurt. If you’re lucky, you’ll have a warm super fresh pastry straight for the oven. Those are best 😛
Prices:
- Sandwich with Liptauer (cottage cheese with paprika powder) – 310 HUF
- Scone with cheese – 210 HUF
- Fruity yoghurt – 270 HUF
- Strawberry milkshake – 630 HUF
- Cserpes rudi (chocolate filled with creamy cottage cheese) – 130 HUF

Twentysix Budapest
When you cross the gate of 26th Király street, you enter an exceptional world. It’s like arriving in a jungle. This urban jungle, with its 26° degrees, has a relaxing atmosphere thanks to the gorgeous plants.
First, you don’t know where to look… The pretty bar, the vast chandelier, the transparent roof, the rubber plant, the bird of paradise or the other 34 types of plants. After a friendly waiter accompanies you to your table, you can observe more details, like the chairs made of natural materials, the bricks and the elegant door frames of the courtyard, than the pretty menu.
The menu includes shakshuka, omelette, granola, pancakes as well as coffee specialities. I’ve tried their signature pancakes called Morning 26°, which was served with cranberry, homemade jam and maple syrup. The avo toast was also tasty.
Also worth returning for the night to try out some gin cocktails from their wide selection.
Reservation is only possible for dinner on the website. For breakfast, it’s not possible to book a table.
You’ll forget that you’re in the busy city centre of Budapest. Twentysix is more than an urban GARDEN° and restaurant, it’s a home of zero waste coffee and SHOP°, a yoga STUDIO°, moreover, a HOUSE° for workshops and events. Stories Boutique Hotel is also part of the complex.
Prices:
- Morning 26° – 3550 HUF
- Avocado toast – 3950 HUF (+ extra salmon – 900 HUF)
- Flat white – 880 HUF
- Cappuccino – 690 HUF
- Green tea – Mango lemonade – 1350 HUF
- The final price includes a 10% service charge.

Keksz
Keksz is more likely a place for drinks, but they also offer breakfast. In the morning, the service is slower than during the night, but the waiters are friendly. In the summer season, many tables are situated outside, otherwise, you have to sit inside.
I ordered French toast with grated cheese and sour cream, and a plate with 3 huge thick slices of bread arrived with cheddar cheese and sour cream. I couldn’t eat half of it. It was good, I just expected something else…
Prices:
- French toast with grated cheese and sour cream – 1540 HUF
- 4 eggs scrambled, bacon, red onion, fresh bread, and sour cream – 1370 HUF
- Keksz English breakfast – 1750 HUF
- Cappuccino – 440 HUF

Á table Madách Boulangerie – Pátisserie
You might guess from the name… France inspires the colours, decoration, as well as menu of Á table. You can eat Croque Madame, croissant, croissant sandwiches, other salty and sweet pastries, omelettes, pancakes and even more sweets. Enjoy it 😉
Breakfast is served from 7 am to 2 pm inside and on the small terrace outside. Unfortunately, the coffee isn’t the best, so if you want to have quality coffee, visit My Little Melbourne next door.
Prices:
- Pain aux chocolat pistache – 790 HUF
- Cappuccino – 650 HUF

Juicy + Budapest Bagel
Juicy + Budapest Bagel offers more than juices and bagels. If the delicious bagels don’t sound exciting enough for you, ask for a healthy smoothie bowl, vegan cake or tapioca pudding. My chosen mango smoothie bowl wasn’t only healthy and beautiful but super tasty too.
Their fridge is filled with delicious cold-pressed healthy juices in every colour and every taste combination. You have to choose one!
Be aware of the small size of the shop, where you can sit only on the window sill and in nice weather on the bench outside.
Prices:
- Mango smoothie bowl – 1090 HUF
- After party juice – 1190 HUF
- Bagels – 1250 HUF

Szimply food
Szimply is not a simple but super cool breakfast place with only a few tables, so it’s mainly busy. I’ve tried 3 times to get in, but it was always full. Reservation isn’t available, so for the 4th time, we arrived at opening time. For a delicious breakfast, it’s worth waking up early. Or come later, and wait for a free table and in the meantime, grab a coffee at Kontakt coffee, next to Szimply and feel free to bring it with you.
You know the feeling when the food is so beautiful, and you’re afraid to touch the masterpiece on your plate? This is your place! Szimply provides tasty and awesome #instafood with a seasonal changing menu. My avocado toast was very flavourful with avocado cream, egg, greens and sauces. Delicious and delightful!

- Avocado toast – 3400 HUF
- Oatmeal – 2100 HUF

Alma Nomad Bakery (CLOSED and moved to Madrid)
This cute and cosy pastry shop waits for you only on weekends and on Friday for a late breakfast. Every pastry is baked in the small bakery by friendly owners, so the scent is fantastic.
Stunning sweet and salty pastries and cakes are displayed, very hard to choose. I asked for a coffee with an almond croissant and a pistachio frangipane lemon curd (I couldn’t resist…). The coffees and teas come in beautiful ceramics, perfect match with the natural design of inside and outside. Have a seat in the shadowy corner and enjoy your lovely pastries!

Fekete
The coffee shop is reachable from a courtyard, where seats are waiting for you to enjoy your chosen drink in the warm season. During winter, the cosy indoor area is there for you. Order at the bar and take a seat. Fekete can be crowded at the weekends, especially in the morning, but it’s worth waiting!
They offer delicious cakes and breakfasts like oatmeal, pastries, quiche, waffles and omelette. The brioche salmon sandwich with salad was delicious, just like the flat white. Fekete means black, so you can have good quality black coffee as well as other shades.
Prices:
- Brioche salmon sandwich – 1850 HUF
- Flat white – 850 HUF

Zoska
Zoska is a cute place with a charming atmosphere thanks to the colourful post-its on the wall, bookshelves and a yellow bicycle outside (just to mention a few). On weekends, it’s bustling… Outside, inside, on the gallery, everywhere. I understand because the breakfast is delicious, but the waiters aren’t always kind…
You can find sandwiches, pancakes, porridge, scrambled eggs in their selection. I highly recommend the scrambled eggs menus with two chosen toppings and a coffee or juice. My fluffy eggs were topped with creamy goat cheese and pear, the flavours matched. The coffee isn’t that good quality, so if you’re a specialty coffee fan, walk a minute to fekete or Budapest Baristas.
Prices:
- Scrambled eggs menu with 2 toppings + coffee – 1450 HUF
- Lemonade (small) – 550 HUF
- Cappuccino – 550 HUF

Budapest Baristas
Budapest Baristas is situated between Astoria and Kálvin square, so if you need some silence, have a seat inside and watch the busy Károly street through the window. I’m sure you’ll find a free table thanks to the extra tables on the gallery. If you don’t care about the traffic, only about your yummy coffee and breakfast, sit outside on the green chairs and enjoy it.
They offer a breakfast menu with healthy and not so healthy, vegan, fruity, sweet and salty options. I had sweet potato toast with avocado cream, egg, bacon and salad, which was very tasty and a very big portion.
Don’t miss their quality coffee.

- Babu’s favourite – sweet potato toast with avocado cream, egg, bacon and salad – 2090 HUF
