I help you to discover all of it! I prepared a “40 reasons to fall in love with Budapest” checklist for your next trip, download it below. Architecture and must-see tourist attractions in Budapest 1. Walk along the Danube riverbank and Chain bridge The Danube is the river of Budapest, it divides Buda and Pest. My favourite part is the riverbank and the view from the bridges. The panorama is always amazingly beautiful with the historical buildings. Don’t forget to walk through the Chain Bridge (Lánchíd), which was the city’s 1st bridge! Be fast because the bridge will be closed from September 2018. 2. Budapest has Europe’s 2nd largest Parliament. The Hungarian Parliament was designed by Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style, inspired by the British House of Parliament. The construction was finished in 1896, on the 100th anniversary of the founding of […]

Every 5 offers an amazing panorama of the city from different heights and angles. Budapest is a magnificent city with 2 million citizens. My favourite part is the riverbank and the view from the bridges. Its river is called Danube (Duna), which divides the city into Buda and Pest. The Buda part has hills, like the Gellért Hill or other Buda Hills. The Pest side is flat. Both parts have many tourist attractions. Watch my travel video on YouTube to explore the best views in Budapest, like a local! And subscribe to my YouTube channel to not miss the upcoming travel videos.   Here’s my local travel guide to Budapest’s best viewpoints!   1. Gellért Hill with the Citadel – Currently, the main panorama terraces are closed!!! The 235 m high hill dominates the side of Danube with the Citadel (Citadella). St. Stephen’s Basilica in Budapest https://alizswonderland.com/st-stephens-basilica-in-budapest/ https://alizswonderland.com/st-stephens-basilica-in-budapest/#respond Sun, 27 Aug 2017 22:15:58 +0000 https://alizswonderland.com/?p=116 St. Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István-bazilika) is the largest church in Budapest. The building dominates the city centre with its height. It is 96 meter high, just like the Parliament, with this height the basilica is the 2nd highest church in Hungary. According to current regulations, there cannot be taller building in Budapest than 96 metres. A brief history of St. Stephen’s Basilica It is named in honour of Stephen, the first King of Hungary, whose mummified body is buried in the undercroft and his supposed right hand is kept in the reliquary. The construction began in 1851 in accordance with the plans of József Hild. The dome collapsed in 1868, that required demolition of the completed works and rebuilding from the ground up. It was finished in 1905 after 54 years of construction, according to the plans of Miklós Ybl (he also designed the Opera House on the Andrássy Avenue) and was completed by József Kauser. It was built in neo-classicist style. The facade is framed by two large bell towers. Hungary’s biggest bell hangs in the southern tower, weighing over 9 tonnes. The interior is characterized by rich ornamentation. Maybe it looks too much at first, just go closer […]
