Create your own special gift wrapping paper for the Holidays in a super easy way. You need only paper, paint and the “pattern”.

What kind of shapes and patterns remind you of Christmas?

Christmas tree, star, heart, snow, snowflake, snowman, pine, gingerbread, reindeer, a box of present, ribbon?

Look around at home, use your imagination and your items in your household.

 

Materials for your DIY gift wrap

• Paper for the prints
• Paper for surface / furniture protection
• Paint + water
• Stamp: pine branch / potato / pastry cutter / knife
• Brush
• Rubber gloves (optional)

 

How to make the Christmas pattern?

Cover your worktop with paper to protect your furniture from any damage.

In a plastic glass or small bowl mix acrylic paint with water. You can play with the texture by adding different amount of water to the paint. For me, the half paint and half water combination worked the best.

Dip your form into the paint or paint the stamp surface with a brush and press onto the paper.

Lay the paper on a safe surface to dry. I used recycled paper because it’s easier to work with. You can use any paper size.

DIY Pine branch Christmas pattern

Paint the top side of the branch and leaves. If you use too much paint the pattern will be blurred and will lose its original shape.

Carefully place the painted branch onto the wrapping paper upside-down (the painted part facing the wrapping paper) and press the top with another paper. Carefully remove the paper and the branches from the printed paper. That’s it.

If you have luck, the pattern on the top paper will be also good 😉

 

DIY Pine leaves with metal wire

Bend a metal wire piece, dip into the paint and stamp onto the paper. Repeat it as many times needed for the perfect pattern.

 

DIY Christmas pattern with a potato stamp

You can cut out simple forms from a potato easily.

Triangle is a minimal Christmas tree for me 🙂

Cut out a triangle from the potato. Dip the potato into the paint and press onto the paper. Easy-peasy.

In case of too much paint the potato will slip on the paper, so don’t dip it deep into the paint.

For more complicated shapes I used my pastry cutters. Just push it into the potato flesh and cut off the edges. It’s easier than you think. The potato surface has to be flat, otherwise, the flaws will be visible on paper.

Paint a thin layer onto the potato, brushing from the middle to the edges. With too much paint the pattern has a different texture.

Always make testing on a different paper. With the sparkling paint, I stamped 1st onto a testing paper and the 2nd stamping went onto the wrapping paper.

After few stamping wipe the edges of the potato form, because the paint can be stuck there and it makes an outline around the shape.

 

Use your gingerbread or Christmas tree pastry cutter. I don’t have those, maybe I will buy few more for next year.
