About the colour pink

Pink was 1st used as a colour name in the 17th century. It was named after a flower called pink.

Pink is part of the red colour family, compared to red it’s more tranquil. Red is associated with passion and action, but pink is the colour of harmony, compassion, sweetness, joy and femininity.

Let’s make this clear, when I say pink I mean the thousands shades of pink because pink is not only one colour, it’s a collective name. The shades are usually called with fantasy names such as rose, light pink, dirty pink, blossom, blush, peach, magenta and fuchsia etc.

Just take a look at this Pantone’s millennial pink palette, it features some pale pink hues, this is only a snippet. Read more about millennial pink and home decor: Millennial pink ideas for your perfect home.

The psychology of pink colour

Colours affect our mood. You need to like the colour, which will surround you in your home.

Pink represents love just like red. Pink is a mix of red and white, so both add some characters. It gets the passion of red and tranquillity of white.

Deeper pinks are more passionate and increase energy. Darker pinks can have a dramatic effect, they fill the room with creativity, energy and confidence.

Pale pink gives a positive impression and relaxes you. It shows tenderness and kindness like this room by fenton & fenton.

Colour pink has a calming effect.

Studies confirm that high amounts of pink colour can calm the nerves and even create physical weakness in people. Pink has successfully treated violent and aggressive prisoners by placing them in rooms with pink walls. Overexposure to the colour may have the opposite effect though.

So don’t overdose the pink. It’s okay if you don’t paint all of your walls pink.

You can cover one wall with wallpaper. Floral and tropical patterns work well with pink.

For some change, start with one wall or with one door.

You’ll see soon, that I have bright pink walls in my bedroom. I can testify it has a calming effect and a pinky happy mood is always guaranteed.

So let’s see my pink walls 😉

Pinky bedroom

I started with the bedroom because my bedroom is also dressed in pale pink 🙂 I can’t tell you the exact colour because when I saw the 1st layer on the wall, it looked like a big bubble gum, so we added some white paint to the pale pink.

The walls with the white and blue furniture aren’t that girly or feminine, so my boyfriend didn’t say that he won’t sleep there. The accessories are also the shades of pink with white, blue and turquoise. My unicorn fits into my bedroom with the pink fluffy fur 🙂
