The creamy peanut butter and sweet honey is a perfect match with the oatmeal and ground flaxseeds.

Serve it as a dessert or a snack, but be careful… It can cause addiction.

Health benefits of cocoa, flaxseed, honey and oat

Cocoa powder

Cocoa powder is made by crushing cocoa (cacao) beans. It contains polyphenols, which have numerous health benefits like reduced inflammation, better blood flow, lower blood pressure and improved cholesterol and blood sugar levels. However, processing and heating cocoa can cause it to lose its beneficial properties.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed is really high in omega-3 fatty acids like rich alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), that protects against inflammation in the blood vessels, prevents stroke and reduces bad cholesterol.

It contains two types of fibre: water-soluble and insoluble.

Water-soluble fibre slows digestion in the stomach and reduces the feeling of hunger.

Insoluble fibre can keep you healthy by moving food quickly through your body and useful for preventing constipation. Be careful, don’t use a high amount of it, it can cause stomach ache because of its high fibre content. The recommended amount is 1 tablespoon (10 g) of ground flaxseed per day.

Honey

Honey can be used as food (natural sweetener) and medicine as well. It acts as a natural medicine for cough and helps to heal wounds. High-quality honey contains antioxidants, so it can reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and some types of cancer.

Oat and oatmeal

Oat is one of the best sources of the soluble fibre. Helps to reduce the level of cholesterol and the risk of heart disease, during digestion it attaches to cholesterol particles and removes them from the body. It cleans your intestines and gives energy for many hours.

Preparation time: 10 min + 15 min

Ingredients for 15-18 energy bites:

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup (110 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup (60 g) old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) ground flaxseeds
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons water

How to make the peanut butter chocolate energy bites with oats?

Place all ingredients into a bowl. Stir them together. (If it looks dry, you can add a little bit of water.)

Cover the bowl and put in the fridge.

After 30 minutes, take out the bowl from the fridge and start to roll the bites. I use around one tablespoon of the mixture for one ball. From this amount of ingredients, you will get around 15-18 balls.
